Gigi Cifali's Ponte Morandi Photographs at Palazzo Ducale, Genoa

The Palazzo Ducale is showcasing 'Gigi Cifali. Ponte Morandi: deconstructions', a photographic exhibition that will be available until 30 August 2026. This event marks eight years since the tragic collapse of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa, which resulted in the loss of 43 lives on 14 August 2018. Curated by Gianluigi Ricuperati with a written contribution from Riccardo Venturi, the exhibition coincides with the verdict of the maxi trial, which led to 32 convictions and 25 acquittals. It includes seven photographs from Cifali's 'Scomposizioni' series, featuring concrete blocks enveloped in sheets and steel cables. A significant piece titled 'CONCRETE EVIDENCE OF PROFIT BEFORE PEOPLE.' critiques the impact of imagery on public discourse, while also highlighting issues of infrastructure decay, environmental concerns, and the necessity for civic awareness. A public discussion regarding memorials is scheduled for the autumn.
