Gibellina PhotoRoad: Open Call for Open Air Photography Festival
The Fondazione Orestiadi, continuing its mission to revitalize Gibellina after the 1968 earthquake, has launched the Gibellina PhotoRoad International Open Air Photography Festival in collaboration with the cultural association Galleria X3 of Palermo. Artistic director Arianna Catania leads the event, which is the final phase of the project "Obiettivo Creativo: giovani talenti a Gibellina, città della fotografia," co-funded by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Department of Youth. The festival runs from July 29 to August 31, 2016, with opening days July 29-31 featuring workshops by Dutch artist Anouk Kruithof and Massimo Mastrorillo. The theme is "disorder" as a synonym for change and discovery. An open call invites photographers, artists, and curators to propose site-specific installations for the first piazza of the Sistema delle Piazze designed by Franco Purini and Laura Thermes (1982-1990). Deadline for proposals is May 25, 2016.
