Gibbs Farm: A Sculpture Park in New Zealand
Alan Gibbs, one of New Zealand's wealthiest individuals and founder of Gibbs Amphibians, established Gibbs Farm 20 years ago near Auckland on the North Island. The 4 km park features monumental sculptures by 22 world-renowned artists, including Anish Kapoor, Sol LeWitt, Neil Dawson, Leon Van Den Eijkel, and Andy Goldsworthy. Works include Dawson's 'Horizons,' a waving iron profile; Van Den Eijkel's 'Red Cloud Confrontation in Landscape,' a colorful sequence of volumes; Kapoor's giant elliptical PVC membrane; LeWitt's 1985 concrete pyramid; and Goldsworthy's 'Arches,' a row of Scottish stone arches built using ancient Roman techniques. The park is set against the Kaipara Harbour, the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, and is open by appointment.
