Giant Steel Origami Sculptures Tour North America

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Origami in the Garden, a traveling exhibition by artists Jennifer and Kevin Box of Santa Fe, transforms the ancient Japanese art of paper folding into monumental steel sculptures exceeding seven meters in height. The project, developed over a decade with collaborators including Robert J. Lang, Te Jui Fu, Beth Johnson, and Michael G. LaFosse, comprises about ten large-scale works and eight smaller pieces suitable for indoor display. A documentary directed by Barbara Bentree chronicles the project's evolution from a Thai foundry to global venues, having captivated over three million visitors. The film is available on Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, and YouTube Movies. The next exhibition opens March 2, 2025, at the Tulsa Botanic Garden in Oklahoma. The first show took place in Santa Fe in 2014, followed by at least 15 other exhibitions across the United States. Kevin Box stated, 'Origami animals, blooming flowers, crumpled ideas, and innovative abstraction are all themes found in my work. Each piece has a title, a reason, and a purpose in contributing to the story I am telling.'
