Giant Playmobil figures by 10 artists to be auctioned for charity in Berlin

exhibition · 2026-04-26

For the 50th anniversary of Playmobil, ten artists and creatives have been commissioned to transform the iconic 7.5 cm figures into life-sized works of art, standing 1.5 meters tall. The project, curated by Hikmet Sugoer, includes participants such as Bünyamin Aydin (founder of Les Benjamins), Ferdi Porsche (founder of F.A.T. International), toy collector Selim Varol, artist Boris Tellegen (known as DELTA), and street artist Hera / Jasmin Siddiqui. The oversized customized figures will be exhibited at the Beinghunted Gallery in Berlin from August 30 for two weeks. After the exhibition, they will be auctioned on eBay, with 100% of proceeds donated to Save the Children Germany. Playmobil was invented by German cabinetmaker Hans Beck (1929–2009) for Geobra Brandstätter, a company originally producing window frames. Beck spent three years (1971–1974) developing the toy line, which debuted at the Nuremberg International Toy Fair in 1974. By 2009, over 2.2 billion Playmobil figures had been sold. The anniversary project was developed in collaboration with German youth organizations SkF and PATTA Academy.
