Giant Mario Giacomelli photographs transform Mondolfo for Synesthesia Festival 2020

The third edition of Synesthesia Festival begins August 7, 2020, in Mondolfo, a hilltop town in the Marche region near the Adriatic Sea. This year focuses on visual arts, featuring giant prints of photographs by Mario Giacomelli (1935–2000), a native of Senigallia. The works are part of MONDOLFO GALLERIA SENZA SOFFITTO, a permanent open-air gallery. Street artists Eron, Lore Prod, and Andrea Sata will also create murals. Artistic director Filippo Sorcinelli, who runs the festival with local association PAM – Pro Arte Mondolfo, explained that the edition was restructured due to the pandemic: events will run monthly from July to October rather than a single July program. Four Giacomelli photographs will be displayed in corten frames, accompanied by his poetry and texts by his son Simone. The festival aims to revitalize the historic center and engage the community, though Sorcinelli acknowledges initial resistance from locals. PAM was founded to promote Mondolfo's artistic heritage and organize events with national and international reach. The festival invites other artists to contribute in future years.
