Gianni Toti Lab explores poetronica through video art and new book
From January 17 to May 23, the cultural association La Casa Totiana organizes a series of meetings and workshops titled 'Gianni Toti Lab. Videoarte e tecnologie nell'opera di Gianni Toti' to delve into the video art of Gianni Toti (Rome, 1924–2007). The initiative also revisits the book 'Gianni Toti o della poetronica' (ETS, Pisa 2012) by Sandra Lischi and Silvia Moretti, which examines Toti's concept of poetronica—a neologism fusing poetry and video, as well as other arts. Toti, a poet, journalist, filmmaker, partisan, and video art pioneer, constantly experimented with language, inventing words and deconstructing meaning across media. The book features essays by Lischi, Moretti, Giuseppe Zagarrio, Mario Lunetta, Tarcisio Tarquini, Rossella Rega, Ando Gilardi, Marc Mercier, Italo Moscati, Anna Barenghi, Michel Chion, and Marco Maria Gazzano. Its design mimics an artist's book, with Toti's words, drawings, and phrases dancing across margins. The volume is structured as a 'book-world,' echoing the 'house-world' of Toti's archive. Silvia Bordini, the reviewer, highlights Toti's opposition to early digital homogenization in the 1980s. The book costs €24 and is available at www.edizioniets.com.
