Gianni Politi's Wind-Painted Sails and Phone Monologue

artist · 2026-04-27

Gianni Politi (Rome, 1986) has created a site-specific installation titled "Le fatiche di A.C." for Hypermaremma, consisting of ten painted windsurf sails installed on the ground in Talamone until September 3. The sails will later be used in a regatta on September 10, visible from Giannella beach, tracing a metaphorical journey from Porto Santo Stefano back to Talamone. The work recalls a childhood memory of his mother driving him from Calapiccola to Ansedonia to a windsurfing school, reflecting on parental responsibility and painting's endurance against time and weather. Until September 1, the open-air exhibition "Napoli" (promoted by Flip Projet with Studio Natale's support) features posters co-designed with Enzo Cucchi, displayed outside closed contemporary art venues in Naples, continuing dialogues from previous shows at Sala d'Aspetto in Milan and Nomas Foundation in Rome (both 2015). Separately, Politi contributed to the podcast series "Monologhi al telefono" by Donatella Giordano, where he quotes Piero Pizzi Cannella from the video "Con chi parlo o la fabbrica di pennelli" (directed by Cricchi and Morani). Politi uses this as a hypertext to update a message aligned with his own risky, obsessive, and playful painting practice. In the interview, Politi expressed admiration for Pizzi Cannella, Enzo Cucchi, Giuseppe Gallo, Nunzio Di Stefano, and all artists in Rome.
