Gianni Politi's 'Benvenuto (anima del pittore da giovane)' at Pescheria, Pesaro
Gianni Politi (Rome, 1986) presents 'Benvenuto (anima del pittore da giovane)' at the Centro Arti Visive Pescheria in Pesaro, curated by Marcello Smarrelli. The exhibition surveys the last eight years of Politi's work, featuring two distinct series: twelve male portraits inspired by Gaetano Gandolfi's 1770 painting 'Studio di uomo con la barba,' which Politi has obsessively reproduced since 2012 due to its resemblance to his father, and five large abstract canvases created through an indirect painting technique using cutouts from other works. The portraits oscillate between caricature and color field, while the abstracts feature dark voids generated by analog special effects. A monolith in plaster and polystyrene, painted with iridescent colors, serves as a central installation. The show explores themes of youth, painterly identity, and the tension between figuration and abstraction.
