Gianni Piacentino's Parareal Objects at Galleria Mucciaccia
Galleria Mucciaccia in Rome presents a retrospective of Gianni Piacentino (born 1945 in Coazze), featuring over thirty works described as "parareal concrete objects" by the artist. The exhibition includes new metallic pieces referencing models from 1965 to 1980, which Piacentino calls "auto-manierism" with renewed colors. The accompanying monograph, over 300 pages, covers his research since the 1960s through works, drawings, projects, photographs, historical installations, catalogs, and documents, with a cover designed by the artist. Curator Francesca Pola defines these objects as "augmented reality of worldly objects." Piacentino's work, rooted in a passion for motorcycles, airplanes, and speed, uses symbols alluding to velocity and acceleration despite their static nature. The artist's precision and rigorous design, evident in his palette of over 300 colors studied since 1968, create a unique path distinct from Minimal Art or Arte Povera. Gunter Pfeiffer's catalog text notes the objects are "bicycles not usable on two or three wheels, bizarre elongated objects, and graceful constructions made more to be looked at than used."
