Gianni Asdrubali on Painting, Ceramics, and the Annihilation of Surface

Gianni Asdrubali, born in Tuscania in 1955, will have his work showcased in the retrospective 'Surfing with the alien' at Palazzo Collicola in Spoleto, starting June 27. Curated by Marco Tonelli and Bruno Corà, the exhibition emphasizes his painting series and his long-standing fascination with ceramics. In a conversation with Irene Biolchini, he elaborates on the linguistic possibilities of ceramics, noting his collaborations with artisans while preserving individual roles. He acknowledges influences from Leoncillo and Fontana. At Montelupo, he produced a large piece with local artisans and challenges conventional art narratives. His approach includes subtracting material from prefired ceramics to achieve balance in his creations. Additionally, he worked with Oramide on the interactive digital project 'Zumber.'
