Gianluca Marinelli's 'Attendo notizie' Explores Memory and Existential Void in Salento

The Gigi Rigliaco Gallery in Galatina, Lecce, hosts 'Attendo notizie', a solo exhibition by Gianluca Marinelli (born 1983, Taranto), curated by Carmelo Cipriani. The show delves into individual and collective memory, using an aesthetic of fragmentation across multiple media. Marinelli, winner of the 6th edition of the 'Premio di pittura Giuseppe Casciaro' in Salento, presents recent works that evoke ancestral emotions of loss and absence amid ruins. Key pieces include the painting series 'Con la corsa risvegliava il vento' (2022), a reworked vintage postcard from just before World War I bearing the title phrase 'Attendo notizie', and the photographic polyptych 'Solitudo' (2021) comprising 140 frames. The ceramic installation 'Sbattuto dal vento l’occhio lacrima al contrario' (2024) shares a magmatic quality symbolizing existential chaos. The series 'Sempreverde' (2022) addresses the Xylella environmental crisis in Puglia, while 'Oltremare' (2024) reflects on migrant tragedies and Western indifference.
