Gianluca Codeghini's 'NoiSe. Derive' Turns Siena into a Sonic Art Experience
Gianluca Codeghini (born 1968, Milan) presents 'NoiSe. Derive,' a solo exhibition opening the Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy 2025 in Siena. Curated by Stefano Jacoviello, the show unfolds across three venues: Santa Maria della Scala, ChigianArtCafé at Palazzo Chigi Saracini, and Inner Room. The exhibition explores a perceptual trilogy of black, white, and pink noise, each with distinct density and symbolic function. At Santa Maria della Scala, 'white noise' manifests as installations, videos, audio montages, and drawings in the Refettorio and Corticella warehouses, challenging traditional listening by elevating ambient hum into a critical device. At ChigianArtCafé, 'black noise' uses near-imperceptible low frequencies to confront viewers with the impossibility of full listening. In Inner Room, 'pink noise' emerges from the interaction between body, sound, and space, creating a multisensory phenomenon engaging vision, touch, and hearing. The experience extends through CHIGIANARadioarte, a sonic channel accompanying the public throughout the summer. The collaboration between Chigiana, Santa Maria della Scala, and Inner Room demonstrates how art and music coexist through friction rather than similarity, positioning listening as a radical political act.
