Gianfranco Meggiato's Genesis exhibition at Scuola della Misericordia in Venice

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Scuola della Misericordia in Venice, restored to its former splendor, hosts Genesis, a solo exhibition of monumental sculptures by Venetian artist Gianfranco Meggiato (born 1963). Curated by Maurizio Vanni and supported by Lu.C.C.A. (Lucca Center for Contemporary Art), with technical coordination by Galleria Orler, the show presents fifty large-scale works in marble, bronze, and aluminum spanning Meggiato's career. The exhibition also features his latest experiments moving away from geometric constraints toward free forms in space. The venue, located in the Cannaregio district, was inaugurated in 1583 by Doge Nicolò da Ponte and attributed to Jacopo Sansovino. In a video, Meggiato discusses the secrets behind his works, which are commented on in the catalogue by critics Maurizio Vanni, Stefano Zecchi, and Luca Beatrice. The sculptures represent intricate paths, mirroring life's complex journeys, with difficult moments functional to growth and rebirth.
