Gianfranco Ferrè's Sketches and Fashion on Display in Cremona
The Fondazione Ferrè presents 'Gianfranco Ferrè. Moda, un racconto nei disegni' at the Centro Culturale Santa Maria della Pietà in Cremona from April 21 to June 18, 2017. The exhibition features over one hundred original sketches by the late Italian couturier and architect Gianfranco Ferrè (1944-2007), alongside emblematic garments. The drawings are grouped by themes, colors, forms, and graphic solutions, revealing Ferrè's architectural approach to fashion—conceiving garments as structures, geometries, and harmonies of volumes. Ferrè once wrote, 'As a stylist and architect, I conceive fashion as design.' The exhibition also includes a conference on May 18, 'Gianfranco Ferré. Moda, un racconto nella musica,' exploring the role of soundtracks in his fashion shows, part of the celebrations for Claudio Monteverdi's 450th birth anniversary. The show is curated by Rita Airaghi, Ferrè's cousin and longtime collaborator, now director of the Fondazione Ferrè.
