Giancarlo Limoni's Large Canvas at TRAleVOLTE in Rome

Giancarlo Limoni's monumental painting 'Le nevi dell'anno' (2022, oil on canvas, 200×300 cm) is on view at TRAleVOLTE in Rome in the exhibition 'Sotto le nevi dell'anno'. The work, hung like a theatrical backdrop against black velvet, invites viewers into a festive celebration of painting. Lorenzo Canova's accompanying text describes the piece as a meditation on time and memory, with the painting serving as a tactile metaphor. The title references François Villon's line 'Mais où sont les neiges d'antan?' (But where are the snows of yesteryear?). Limoni, born in Rome in 1947, uses brush and spatula to create a dense weave of chromatic traces, modulated color combinations, and delicate shadows. The work completes his cycle of 'Quadri bianchi' (White Paintings), which began with a 1984 exhibition at Galleria l'Attico, presented in a catalog by Maurizio Calvesi.
