Gian Paolo Barbieri retrospective at Forte di Bard showcases 112 photographs
The Forte di Bard in Valle d'Aosta, a 19th-century fortress, is hosting a major retrospective of fashion photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri (b. 1935, Milan). Titled 'Gian Paolo Barbieri. Oltre,' the exhibition runs until March 3, 2024, in the Cantine halls. It features 112 photographs, including 88 previously unpublished works spanning from the 1960s to the 2000s. The show emphasizes Barbieri's focus on the gaze and body as expressions of the soul, presenting a new perspective on his oeuvre. Barbieri, who opened his first Milan studio in 1962, shot for Vogue America, Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris, Vanity Fair, and GQ. The retrospective is curated by Emmanuele Randazzo, Catia Zucchetti, and Giulia Manca, in collaboration with the Fondazione Gian Paolo Barbieri in Milan.
