Giacomo Balla's Futurist Fashion and Art at Estorick Collection
The Estorick Collection in London presents 'Giacomo Balla. Designing the Future. Collezione Biagiotti Cigna', the first UK exhibition dedicated to the Futurist artist in the new millennium. The show features 116 works from the Biagiotti Cigna collection, assembled by fashion designer Laura Biagiotti and Gianni Cigna. Curated by Fabio Benzi, the exhibition spans Balla's career from Divisionist paintings like 'Autospalla' (1903) and 'Ritratto di Grethel Löwenstein' (1911) to Futurist masterpieces such as 'Compenetrazioni iridescenti' (1913) and 'Vaprofumo' (1926). A highlight is the extensive section on Balla's fashion and applied arts, including sketches for clothing, accessories, and furniture from 1913–1930, reflecting his 1915 'Manifesto of Futurist Reconstruction of the Universe'. The exhibition runs from April 5 to June 25, 2017, with an opening on April 4.
