Giacinto Occhionero's Fifth Solo Show at Kristen Lorello in New York

Italian artist Giacinto Occhionero presents his fifth solo exhibition, titled 'Drop Through,' at Kristen Lorello gallery in New York. The show runs until May 20, 2023. Occhionero's work has evolved since a 2014 residency in Istanbul, where he began using spray paint on transparent synthetic surfaces with small circular marks, creating an impressionistic atmosphere. He later introduced secondary and tertiary colors and layered color planes behind these forms to suggest cellular, celestial, and marine environments. For this exhibition, he expands his color universe, using two superimposed transparent plexiglass sheets and three levels of paint, with increased use of iridescence. Occhionero met his gallerist in Rome in 2005 when she was a Fulbright scholar; they have worked together since 2011. He describes his artistic evolution as gradual and obsessive, with a Zen-like approach embracing errors and the magic of form and color, moving from an atmospheric condition to a more psychological and introspective dimension of color.
