Giacinto Di Pietrantonio launches online video series on Italian regions and art

digital · 2026-04-27

Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, born in Lettomanopello in 1954 and a professor of Contemporary Art History and History and Theory of Representation at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, has started an online video series titled "Miti e mitologie dell'arte." Each video focuses on one of Italy's twenty regions, using ceramic works by Ugo La Pietra created in 2011 in Caltagirone as a narrative thread. The ceramics, one per region, are described by Di Pietrantonio to discuss art and broader cultural themes. Filmed from his home in Como during the COVID-19 lockdown, the first video was posted on March 25, 2020. Di Pietrantonio wears a two-tone cap and sings opening lines, aiming to provide a positive gesture during the crisis. He emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach, blending ancient and contemporary art with religion, philosophy, science, poetry, and anthropology. The series is published on Artribune, which also offers newsletters on art market, urban regeneration, and cultural tourism.
