Ghost Pitùr, an anonymous housepainter from Brescia, has been cleaning graffiti and tags from the city's walls at night for over 15 years. His story began in autumn 2008 when then-Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi attempted to pass a strict anti-graffiti law, which ultimately failed due to opposition from Alleanza Nazionale and especially the Lega, whose members were under investigation for vandalism. As a result, Italy lacks a serious anti-graffiti law, leaving buildings and monuments vulnerable. Ghost Pitùr, who works as a self-employed artisan, started his mission out of civic duty and love for his city. He carefully selects non-listed buildings to avoid bureaucratic hurdles.
