Ghirri and Celati: Infinite Attention at Mambo

exhibition · 2026-08-05

The Mambo museum in Bologna is hosting the exhibition 'Luigi Ghirri and Gianni Celati. Verso la foce', curated by Lorenzo Balbi and Giulia Pezzoli. The show features photographs taken by the Reggio Emilia-born photographer during a 1991 trip organized with a group of relatives and friends of the writer. The journey began in Ferrara and led to the mouth of the Po River and its branched delta. The term 'confluence' best describes what happened on the bus and during the stops: a confluence of intentions, feelings, ways of being in the world, and aesthetic choices. Ghirri and Celati met in 1981 and developed a deep friendship over years crucial to both their artistic productions. In 1984, Ghirri created 'Paesaggio italiano', an exhibition and photo book to which Celati and other writers contributed. The exhibition at Mambo highlights this collaborative spirit and the enduring attention to landscape and literature.
