Geumhyung Jeong's '7 ways' Performance at Tate Modern
South Korean performer and choreographer Geumhyung Jeong (born 1980, Seoul) will present '7 ways' at Tate Modern in London on October 5, 2017, at 7 PM. The performance is part of Frieze Art Fair week and runs parallel to her solo exhibition 'Private Collection: Unperformed Objects' at Delfina Foundation, which opened on September 28, 2017, and runs until November 11, 2017. This is Jeong's first solo show in the UK. The exhibition continues a project she began in 2016 at Atelier Hermes in Seoul, displaying her private collection of everyday objects that become 'performative' only when interacting with humans. Jeong animates mannequins, vacuum cleaners, exercise machines, and medical equipment, often transgressing norms of femininity and sexuality. The performance consists of seven 'duets' with different objects, reimagining their usual functions. The event is also part of a UK-Korea cultural twinning program.
