Getxophoto 2026: RESET as Curatorial Theme for 20th Edition
The 20th edition of Getxophoto International Image Festival will take place from May 28 to June 21, 2026, in Getxo, Basque Country. Curated by María Ptqk in her final term, the festival adopts the theme RESET, exploring systems restart. Among 23 artists, Cristina de Middel revisits her series Snap Fingers and Whistle (2009), reenacting scenes from West Side Story. Alejandro Acín presents El último lunes, a site-specific piece using 25,000 Civil War photographs from Kutxa Fundazioa's archive, inspired by Picasso's Guernica. Frederic Aranda documents Ian McKellen's haircut after his accident forced him to leave Shakespeare's Henry IV. Gohar Dashti re-exhibits Home (2018) on post-conflict interiors reclaimed by nature. Mohammad Rakibul Hasan shows The Blue Fig on climate change in the Sundarbans. Shahram Saadat installs The Whale in the Ereaga elevator. A digital archive of nearly 400 artists will launch, with a physical exhibition Inventarium at Mercado de Algorta. Judith Melsió presents 20 urte, 33 portraits of locals born alongside the festival. Encerrona vol. 13 and Asamblea general will feature international guests and past curators, supported by Acción Cultural Española (PICE).
