Getty's PST ART: Art and Science Collide Showcases Interdisciplinary Projects Across Southern California
The Getty's PST ART: Art and Science Collide initiative involves over 70 Southern California institutions presenting interdisciplinary projects with $20 million in grant support. This fourth iteration of the program, previously known as Pacific Standard Time, positions Los Angeles as a global art capital through exhibitions exploring technology and cultural exchange. At the Getty Center, Robert Breer's motorized sculptures from Expo '70 in Osaka, Japan, greet visitors to 'Sensing the Future: Experiments in Art and Technology,' which includes Jean Dupuy's interactive 1968 work 'Cone Pyramid (Heart Beats Dust).' The Hammer Museum features 'Breath(e): Toward Climate and Social Justice,' showcasing Michael Joo, Danil Krivoruchko, and Snark.art's AI-driven project 'Organic Growth: Crystal Reef' that uses NFT seeds and 3D-printed sculptures for coral reef research. Crenshaw Dairy Mart presents 'Free the Land! Free the People!' with solar-powered geodesic domes for community workshops. Hauser & Wirth displays Gustav Metzger's 1992 maquette 'Earth Minus Environment (Model),' originally rejected from the UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. SCI-Arc and Pacific Design Center Gallery host 'Views of Planet City,' centered on Liam Young's speculative film about a vertical megalopolis for ten billion inhabitants. The event continues through February 16 across various Los Angeles venues.
