Getty Museum publishes book of lockdown art recreations
The Getty Museum in Los Angeles has published a book titled "Off the Walls: Inspired Re-Creations of Iconic Artworks" collecting over 100,000 user-generated recreations of masterpieces made during the COVID-19 lockdown. The challenge, launched on social media, invited participants to reinterpret famous works using household items. Examples include Vincent van Gogh's "The Starry Night" made with spaghetti and Jan Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring" performed by a cat. The book, published by Getty Publications, features a preface by Annelisa Stephan and Sarah Waldorf, respectively Assistant Director of Digital Content and Social Media Lead at the Getty Museum. Proceeds are donated to Artist Relief, an emergency initiative supporting US artists during the pandemic.
