Getty Launches AI Image Generator Trained on Its Own Library

Getty Images announced the launch of Generative AI by Getty Images, an AI image generator developed in collaboration with Nvidia. The tool is trained exclusively on Getty's own library of hundreds of millions of images, positioning it as a copyright-safe alternative amid ongoing legal battles over AI training data. Getty CEO Craig Peters emphasized the model is "100% commercially clean" and designed for commercial use by marketers, video editors, and social media managers. The company claims it compensates artists and photographers whose work is used for training, a move that distinguishes it from rivals like Shutterstock (which licensed images to OpenAI for DALL-E) and Adobe (which integrated its Firefly AI into Photoshop). However, questions remain about how individual contributors will be credited or paid for specific images used in training.
