cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

In 2025, the Deutsche Märchenstraße (German Fairy Tale Route) will mark its 50th anniversary, honoring the Brothers Grimm. This 600-kilometer path stretches from Hanau, the birthplace of the Grimms, to Bremen and includes 70 stages that can be explored by car, bus, or bicycle. Notable locations along the route are the Schwalmstadt forest, Sababurg Castle, and Rapunzel's Tower. Kassel, where the Grimms resided for more than three decades, is home to the Grimmwelt, a research facility housing over 100,000 items, including an original copy of "Children's and Household Tales." The Brüder Grimm Festspiele Hanau takes place from May to late June across more than 60 cities, while Hamelin features a Pied Piper reenactment every Sunday from May to September. Additionally, Antonio Gramsci translated 23 Grimm tales during his imprisonment in 1932.
