Germano Celant's Post Zang Tumb Tuuum exhibition at Fondazione Prada reconstructs Italian art under Fascism
The exhibition "Post Zang Tumb Tuuum. Art Life Politics: Italia 1918–1943," curated by Germano Celant, was held at Fondazione Prada in Milan from 18 February to 25 June 2018. It showcased over 600 pieces that illustrated the evolution of Italian art during the periods of Futurism and Fascism, drawing from both public and private collections. Celant employed Carlo Ginzburg's 'circumstantial paradigm' to emphasize the historical backdrop of artistic creation. The design by studio 2×4 incorporated documentary images as wallpaper. Notable contributions included works by Giacomo Balla, Felice Casorati, and Adolfo Wildt. The exhibition explored the influence of art on Fascist propaganda and women's portrayals, culminating in a curtain representing the 1945 Genoa exhibition. A comprehensive 660-page publication documented the findings, reviewed by Barbara Casavecchia in March 2018.
