Germano Celant Research Center Opens at Magazzino Italian Art in New York
The Germano Celant Research Center has opened at Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring, New York, on the third anniversary of the critic's death, April 29, 2020. The center houses a library of over 5,000 publications, including 330 rare books, archival materials, photographs, invitations, and posters, with a focus on Italian art from the postwar period to contemporary, especially Arte Povera, with nearly 1,000 volumes on the movement. Magazzino Italian Art, co-founded by Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu, is the only US museum dedicated solely to Italian art. It opened in 2017 in a nearly 2,000-square-meter building designed by Spanish architect Miguel Quismondo. A new 1,200-square-meter pavilion, designed by Quismondo and Alberto Campo Baeza, will open in September 2023, expanding the museum to 3,000 square meters of exhibition and research space.
