exhibition · 2026-04-22

From November 7, 2009, to January 9, 2010, Gerhard Richter held his first solo exhibition in New York in over four years at the Marian Goodman Gallery. The showcase presented large white canvases layered with translucent shades of gray, white, and subtle touches of turquoise and cherry red, creating a sense of melancholy. Among the pieces was a print linked to his 2005 work September, which reflects on the September 11 attacks and the twin towers. The exhibition also featured Abstract Painting (910-2) and Abstract Painting (910-6) from 2009, highlighting diverse color palettes. Richter's abstract works, often employing squeegees and rulers, include relief-like carvings. September (2005) was gifted to The Museum of Modern Art, emphasizing his talent for conveying tragedy and broadening his artistic language.
