Georgia O'Keeffe retrospective at Fondation Beyeler, Basel

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Kicking off its 2022 exhibition season, the Fondation Beyeler in Basel presents a significant retrospective of Georgia O'Keeffe (1887–1986), curated by Theodora Vischer. This exhibition showcases her dynamic painting technique while challenging the notion that her floral artworks symbolize female sexuality. Notable pieces include 'Train at Night in the Desert' (1916). This event is a joint effort with Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Centre Pompidou, and the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. O'Keeffe, who was raised on a dairy farm in Wisconsin, taught art in Virginia and Texas before moving to New York in 1918 and later settling in New Mexico. The exhibition is open until May 22, 2022.
