Georges Rousse's Anamorphic Installation in Santiago

exhibition · 2026-04-24

From January 19, 2014, to October 23, 2013, a retrospective showcasing approximately forty large-scale pieces by Georges Rousse will be held in Chile. Organized by Felipe Tupper, this exhibition takes place at the Fundación ITAU and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC) in Santiago. Rousse has constructed a replica of Ritoque's architecture, where Chilean artists resided during the 1970s. This installation includes an anamorphic star that can be seen from a single perspective and a painted white star inside, drawing on Renaissance anamorphosis and the 16th-century paragone debate. The structure will be taken apart and sent to Bordeaux in the fall of 2014 for a display of 60 photographic works. A video documenting its creation is accessible at vimeo.com/77811095.
