Georges Didi-Huberman and Arno Gisinger's 'Histoires de fantômes pour grandes personnes' at Le Fresnoy
Running from October 5 to December 30, 2012, the exhibition 'Histoires de fantômes pour grandes personnes' curated by Georges Didi-Huberman and Arno Gisinger is hosted at Le Fresnoy in Tourcoing. This event reinterprets the traveling exhibition 'Atlas' (2010-2011) and pays tribute to Aby Warburg's Mnemosyne atlas (1927-1929). It begins with a display of plate 42 from Mnemosyne, delving into themes of time, space, and presentation. The exhibit includes a collage of images, featuring 120 photographs selected by Gisinger from a total of 1,200. 'Mnemosyne 42' showcases almost forty screens displaying films and artworks, including pieces by Pasolini, Dreyer, Giotto, and Goya, with Harun Farocki's 'Übertragung' prominently featured. The exhibition contemplates contemporary portrayals of suffering, resonating with Didi-Huberman's 2011 publication.
