George Trakas's Unfinished Atlantic Avenue Installation Awaits Tree Planting After Decade-Long Development
For over ten years, sculptor George Trakas has been developing Hook, Line and Sinker, a site-specific artwork at the Atlantic Avenue subway station in Brooklyn, which remains incomplete without a Silver Linden tree. This project, launched in 2004, consists of three components: Hook (Archean Reach), Line (Sea House), and Sinker (Mined Swell). In 2011, Trakas presented his final design proposal for the plaza to MTA's Arts for Transit and the Department of Transportation. According to Bonny Tsang from DOT’s press office, the official design phase for the unfinished northwest plaza is set to commence soon, contingent on discussions among city agencies and stakeholders, including Forest City Ratner Companies. The 1904 kiosk by Heins & LaFarge offers natural light, while granite seating added in 2013 awaits the tree's canopy.
