George Clinton's Visual Art Debuts at Mariane Ibrahim Gallery

George Clinton, the legendary leader of Parliament Funkadelic, is also a visual artist represented by Mariane Ibrahim Gallery. His solo exhibition "Mothership" opened on July 25 at the gallery's Chicago location. The show features vivid paintings, a central metal spaceship echoing his iconic stage prop, and archival materials tied to the album Mothership, which celebrates its 50th anniversary. This is Clinton's first solo show with the gallery. A key figure in Afrofuturism, Clinton has created art across media since the early 1970s, using spray paint, text, collage, drawing, and sculpture. Remarkably, he is colorblind, yet his work is known for outrageous chromaticity. The canvases incorporate flying saucer motifs in electric yellow, sky blue, burnt orange, and pastels, with UFO shapes that mutate into organisms, faces, and masks. The exhibition runs from July 26 to September 5, 2025.
