Georg Baselitz's Late Works on View in Salzburg: A Farewell of Fragility
The Museum der Moderne Salzburg is hosting 'Baselitz jetzt', an exhibition that highlights Georg Baselitz's latest artworks focused on themes of mortality and impermanence, curated by Tina Teufel and Harald Krejci. Notable pieces include 'Weißes Bett' (2022) and 'Das lila Tuch', featuring both solitary figures and pairs, indicating a transition to a more delicate aesthetic. At 88 years old, Baselitz attended the opening and contributed a piece to the collection. Meanwhile, the Rupertinum is showcasing 'Baselitz Manifeste', which includes his early drawings. Baselitz has a longstanding connection to Salzburg, having worked with Thaddaeus Ropac since 1984 and relocating there in 2013. His later works incorporate elements of humor and irony, with his final project set for 2025, designing puppets for Stravinsky's 'The Soldier's Tale' at the Salzburg Marionette Theatre. The exhibitions are on view until October 18 and October 4.
