Gensler unveils Corten-clad Thistle Data Center Campus in Arizona
Renderings of the Thistle Data Center Campus, a hyperscale facility in Arizona created for Menlo Digital, have been unveiled by Gensler. Spanning 1,000,000 square feet, the campus will consist of five data centers, each with a capacity ranging from 8 to 10 megawatts, situated on the grounds of a former call center in an industrial zone. The design incorporates a weathering steel exterior and textured concrete to blend with the desert environment. Geofrey Diamond, design director at Gensler, highlighted the project's positive impact on the community's visual appeal. The center will feature up to 20% office space and amenities, prioritizing flexibility for diverse clients, with a lifespan of 20 to 30 years. While security will restrict public access, a well-equipped public open area is planned for the northern section. Diamond noted the resource demands of data centers but pointed out potential environmental benefits, including energy transfer to the grid and closed-loop water systems. Gensler is also working on the Stratos Hyperscale Data Center in Utah.
