Genova Launches DiDe Design Week to Revitalize Historic Center

Genova has launched its own design week, DiDe (Distretto del Design), running until November 30, 2018. The initiative is driven by 14 entrepreneurs operating around Piazza dei Giustiniani, united by a passion for the city's historic center and design. The association's president, Elisabetta Rossetti, stated that the goal is to give the piazza and its surroundings a specific identity, making it a reference point for national and international design. The association includes Ferdinando Bonora, Ettore Piras, Loredana Trestin of CAD / Creativity Art Design, Beppe Veruggio and Pasquale Violi of Firma, Carmen Sidoti, Iris Keci, Gianluigi Rossi, Matteo Rossi of Spazio Giustiniani, Laura Palazzini, Monica Palazzini, Miria Uras of Spazio Liquido, and Elisabetta Rossetti. Historian Ferdinando Bonora explained that the district is inspired by the area's historical role as a hub for furniture and textile shops in the 19th and 20th centuries. The design week features works by 12 designers displayed in various commercial venues. A parallel event, Made in dAD, highlights emerging designers who are alumni of Genova's Department of Architecture and Design. The initiative aims to revitalize the 'rive gauche' of Genova along Via San Lorenzo, a less frequented part of the historic center.
