Genoa street art project revitalizes Certosa district one year after Morandi bridge collapse

A year after the Morandi bridge collapse in Genoa on August 14, 2018, the city is undertaking a cultural regeneration project called On The Wall in the Certosa district, the area most affected by the disaster. The project, organized by the Municipality of Genoa in collaboration with the Linkinart Association, aims to transform the neighborhood through muralism, addressing its history of disorderly industrialization. Fifteen renowned Italian and European muralists, including Ozmo and Dutch artist Zedz, are creating large-scale murals on buildings, while young writers decorate abandoned shutters along main streets. Zedz painted a nearly 600-square-meter abstract mural on the E-Distribuzione cabin along the Polcevera river. Other artists include Agostino Iacurci and Gola Hundun. The initiative, described by cultural manager Maurizio Gregorini as a unique one-month experiment, seeks to restore optimism and add value to Certosa. Emanuela Caronti of Linkinart emphasized the goal of offering a new, positive perspective on the neighborhood. The cultural department is already planning a 2020 edition focusing on the Sampierdarena alta district downstream of the former bridge.
