Genoa dedicates 2025 cultural programming to rediscovering its 19th-century role

Genoa's 2025 cultural program, 'Genova e l’800,' will feature over 190 events including exhibitions, concerts, theater, and guided tours focused on the city's 19th-century transformation. The initiative, coordinated by the Municipality of Genoa with partners like the University, Soprintendenza, Teatro Carlo Felice, and Palazzo Ducale, highlights urbanist Carlo Barabino, architect Gino Coppedè, and painter Plinio Nomellini. Key venues include the Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno, Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Lomellino, Accademia Ligustica, Museo Diocesano, GAM, and Raccolte Frugone. The diffuse exhibition 'Ottocento Svelato' (December 2025–March 2026), curated by Leo Lecci and funded by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, will showcase hidden 19th-century collections including the Prince Odone di Savoia collection. The program opens March 14 with a Giuseppe Verdi concert at Teatro Carlo Felice. Themes include the Risorgimento, Impressionists, scientific discoveries, and urban development. Assessor Lorenza Rosso emphasized youth involvement via a dedicated call for ideas.
