Genesis Breyer P-Orridge's Exhibition at Rubin Museum Showcases New Nepal Works and Interactive Installations

exhibition · 2026-04-22

From March 11 to August 1, 2016, the Rubin Museum located at 150 West 17th Street in New York showcased "Try to Altar Everything," a solo exhibition by Genesis Breyer P-Orridge. This exhibition included new works crafted in Nepal alongside earlier pieces from Invisible Exports. Visitors participated by trading personal items for Psychic Cross pendants, which were exhibited as sacred relics. The top floor of the museum was transformed, turning everyday objects into revered artifacts. Among the notable pieces were "Touching of the Hands" (2016) and "Blood Bunny" (1997–2007). Breyer P-Orridge, who identifies as third gender, has been involved in experimental music and performance since the 1970s. The exhibition's title echoed themes of transformation and sacred ritual, aligning with Robert F. Thurman's 1999 book "Worlds of Transformation."
