General Rehearsal at MMOMA: Art as Performance

The Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) hosts 'General Rehearsal', a group exhibition curated by V-A-C Foundation artistic director Francesco Manacorda. The show blurs boundaries between visual arts, theater, music, and design, presenting over 300 works as actors preparing for an infinite rehearsal. The exhibition is staged across two floors: the third floor displays artworks in dressing-room-like settings, while the lower floor hosts an imaginary performance of Chekhov's 'The Seagull'. Key installations include Mike Nelson's 'Again, more things (a table ruin)' (2014), which sets the tone by abandoning reverence for art objects. Works by Brancusi, Giacometti, de Kooning, and Marini are displayed on wooden pallets. The pastel-colored set design by Koenraad Dedobbeleer enhances the backstage atmosphere. The exhibition runs until September 16, 2018, at MMOMA Petrovka 25.
