General Assembly stages shoppable residence at 144 Vanderbilt in Brooklyn
New York design firm General Assembly, led by Sarah Zames and Colin Stief, has completed three shoppable residences at 144 Vanderbilt, a building designed by SO-IL in Brooklyn's Fort Greene neighborhood. The project, developed by Tankhouse, features furnishings and objects from Assembly Line, the firm's retail gallery dedicated to independent makers. The latest installation introduces a broader roster of collaborators, including Yuxuan Huang, Steven Bukowski, Pat Kim, In Common With, and Los Angeles furniture studio Kalon, founded by Johann Pauwen and Michaele Simmering. Art throughout the residence was selected by Amélie du Chalard. The residences showcase new pieces from Kalon's Material Studies series, including the Rugosa Dining Table and outdoor collection. Zames describes the units as immersive showrooms rather than model residences, allowing visitors to experience independent designers in a lived-in context.
