Gender Fluidity in Fashion: From Big Brands to Emerging Designers
The fashion industry has made significant strides toward inclusivity, with gender-fluid styles now embraced by both independent designers and major luxury houses. Valentino showcased ultra-short shorts and maxi floral prints, while Prada's 'Fluid Form' men's show featured even shorter Bermuda shorts for Spring/Summer 2024. Dior applied crystals and pearls to tailored cuts, and Saint Laurent presented draping and deep necklines for men. Women's fashion saw clean lines, masculine suits, and oversized silhouettes from Jil Sander, Issey Miyake, and Margiela. On July 1, 2023, the collaborative project PRAUD was presented in Milan, created by artist Vanadio23 with fashion designers Simon Cracker, Lessico Familiare, Ritarita, Fantabody, Pijama, and Sirainer. The collection featured prints inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses, depicting sketches of sexuality and love. The event LAUD END PRAUD included talks, performances, and a DJ set to benefit the LGBTQ+ community. Bodypainting works by Serena Congiu of Blend Management, assisted by Martina Porcelli and Elena Bettanello of Julian Watson, were inspired by Vanadio23's paintings. The message promotes embracing sexual identity with irony and eliminating labels.
