Gender Differences in Youth Privacy Behavior with Smart Voice Assistants
A new study published on arXiv explores the influence of gender on privacy choices among young Canadians using smart voice assistants. Researchers surveyed 469 participants aged 16 to 24, comprising 241 males, 174 females, 15 non-binary individuals, and 39 who chose not to specify their gender. The analysis employed multigroup Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling and examined five privacy-related dimensions: Perceived Privacy Risks, Perceived Privacy Benefits, Algorithmic Transparency and Trust, Privacy Self-Efficacy, and Privacy Protective Behavior. Findings revealed notable gender differences, indicating that males are more influenced by privacy risks, while females prioritize trust in algorithms, highlighting the need for better inclusivity.
