Gender Bender Festival returns to Bologna with 100+ events
The 15th edition of Gender Bender Festival takes place in Bologna from October 25 to November 5, 2017. Curated by Daniele Del Pozzo and produced by the LGBT center Cassero, the interdisciplinary festival spans dance, cinema, theater, visual arts, and music. The motto 'Lotta Libera!' (Free Fight!) evokes both the physical confrontation of wrestling and a liberation movement. Over 100 events are scheduled across venues including Cassero LGBT Center, Cinema Lumière, Arena del Sole, Teatro delle Moline, and Oratorio di San Filippo Neri. Key dance performances include Silvia Gribaudi's 'R.OSA' and Giorgia Nardin's 'Minor Place'. Cinema highlights are Mark Gill's portrait of Emily Dickinson and Terence Davies' 'A Quiet Passion' starring Cynthia Nixon. A lecture by theologian Selene Zorzi, author of 'Al di là del genio femminile' and 'Il genere di Dio', is also featured. On October 15, a preview performance 'Centrum Naturae' by Giovanni Gaggia (born 1977, Pergola) and Mona Lisa Tina (born 1977, Francavilla Fontana) takes place at Cassero LGBT Center. The piece, developed since 2014, explores the union of two bodies into a single entity beyond gender, referencing the Platonic myth of the androgyne.
