Gender Battle Survey of Feminist Art at CGAC
From September 13 to December 9, 2007, the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporanea in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, showcased "Gender Battle," curated by Juan Vicente Aliaga. This exhibition explored the relationship between historical feminism and contemporary art, highlighting works created between 1963 and 1982, such as Faith Ringgold's depiction of the friendship between Black and white women. Aliaga integrated post-feminist perspectives from Judith Butler and included contributions from male artists like Urs Lüthi and Michel Journiac. Organized into chapters, the exhibition emphasized the 1970s and featured various photographs and videos. It also presented international artists like Nil Yalter and Maria Luisa Bemberg, alongside reviving talents such as Fina Miralles and Tina Keane. The catalog, however, did not provide an index or artist biographies.
