Gelare Khoshgozaran’s First European Solo Show at Delfina Foundation Explores Exile and Belonging
Delfina Foundation in London presents its first exhibition in four years, 'To Be the Author of One’s Own Travels' by Gelare Khoshgozaran, also her debut solo show in Europe. Guest curated by Eliel Jones, the exhibition features three films—two new commissions—that examine displacement, belonging, and exile. Khoshgozaran, born in Tehran in 1986 during the Iran-Iraq War and based in Los Angeles, draws on her personal migration experience. The films include 'The Retreat' (2023), a 16mm work about an exile retreat; 'To Keep the Mountain at Bay' (2023), a Super 8 ode to Etel Adnan; and 'To Be the Author of One’s Own Travels' (2023), a hand-edited animation of 'Gulliver’s Travels' subverting colonial narratives. The exhibition runs until 6 August 2023.
