Geely and Xiaomi dominate China's April EV sales, pushing Tesla down
In April, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) captured nine of the top 10 sales spots in China, driven by rising oil prices. Geely's Xingyuan led with 34,727 units sold, a 12% increase from March. Xiaomi's new SU7 jumped 61 places to second with 26,826 units, following deliveries that began in late March. Tesla's Model Y fell from first to third, with sales dropping 42% month-on-month to 22,990 units. The only petrol car in the top 10 was Geely's Binyue, ranking eighth with 14,923 units. Data comes from automotive platform Dongchedi. The shift highlights the growing dominance of local Chinese brands in the EV market, as consumers respond to higher fuel costs and affordable electric options.
